Jeff and Kelly came to find my services via the internet. They had already met with several DJ’s but hadn’t found someone that they were willing to book. We talked about many facets of the standard wedding itinerary, details about music and a lot of general “ideas” at our first meeting. Jeff and Kelly seemed very pleased with my style and presentation and were ecstatic to book my services.
On the day of the wedding, things seemed to go equally as smooth. The Bahia’s Mission Ballroom is on the 3rd floor, overlooking Mission Bay with a beautiful view through the windows lining one side of the ballroom. After I setup my equipment in the reception room, I moved downstairs into the garden area where the ceremony was going to take place. Kelly and Jeff had a very memorable ceremony with a lot of laughter and more importantly: Love. Jeff and Kelly seemed like such down to earth people as I got to know them. Very comfortable in their own shoes and with each other. I think that’s why their ceremony was so impactful. Hearing them profess their love for eachother with such emotion in front of their friends in family, left not a dry eye in the audience.
Upstairs in the reception hall was a different story though. The bride and groom had planned their wedding with one very important theme in mind: fun! Their guests completely agreed and it was a very fun and full dance floor until the end of the evening. One very fun and memorable moment of the evening, was the father/daughter dance. Kelly and her dad had this awesome idea, to tease their guests a bit by having me drop the first few lines of Sir Mix A Lot’s “Baby Got Back” for a few seconds as their special song. They danced for a few seconds and got the guests riled up, then we faded in the actualy father/daughter dance song: “How Sweet It Is” by James Taylor. Definitely a lot of fun!
About 10 minutes prior to the last dance, the Fire Works show at Seaworld started up, and I must admit, I’ve never had a better view in all my years as a San Diego resident. It was like the Fire Works show was set specifically for Jeff and Kelly for their wedding day. This of course prompted me to do a sem-cheesy, but appropriate at the time move of mixing is Katy Perry’s “Fireworks” as the last fast dance song of the evening while the guests enjoyed the show. I had a couple of looks that sort of mimed “I see what you did there, DJ”…
A special thanks to Jeff and Kelly for being such a kind, warm and “in love” couple and inviting me to be a part of their wedding. Words cannot express my gratitude for all of your grace and appreciation.
