I have been fortunate enough DJ many weddings at The Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla. This is one of those venues that truly reminds me of how fortunate I am to be doing what I’m doing. After DJ’ing an event with such a beautiful backdrop overlooking La Jolla’s shoreline I can’t help but to feel passionate about my business. The decor, uplighting, amazing cocktail band and to top it all off, one of the best Wedding Coordinators I’ve had the pleasure to work with, this was a truly unforgettable wedding.
The ceremony was rather simple from my perspective since the band took care of the music, I was simply running sound for the ceremony microphone. The florist had done a great job decorating the patio for the ceremony, but at this time I don’t have a photo of it. Sorry, I’m a DJ not a photographer 🙂
Cocktail took place on the patio and in the room connected to the patio. The band touched a bit of reggae and soul and sounded awesome! I’ll have to update this blog with information on them as they were truly impressive.
The Bride and Groom had their first dance to “In My Life” by the Beatles after being introduced into the reception hall. The uplighting was actually rented from an AV company, but in retrospect I wouldn’t recommend this. The coordinator wasn’t aware that I offered uplighting having not working with me before, and we used older Halogen lamps. Though they worked great for the evening, it required a big of setup and adjustment to get them looking the way the coordinator wanted them. I feel as though my more modern LED uplights would have been a little easier, but I am COMPLETELY bias since I love my uplights!
Courtney and Keith had a lot of specific music they wanted to hear. Many of the songs on their “Do Not Play” list were songs that I had seen on the “Must Play” list for the entire Wedding season of 2010, so it was actually really nice. We mixed some 90’s hip hop and lots of other fun dance music later in the evening.
The dance floor was literally packed with people, hardly any room to support more people, from the time I started mixing until the end of the evening. I really expected an elegant and beautiful event coming from MOCA La Jolla and such an experienced wedding coordinator, but I did not expect the guests to be so upbeat and fun. It was truly an honor to be apart of your wedding Courtney and Keith, thank you.
