The Darlington House is located in La Jolla California. Once the seasonal home of Mrs. Sybil Darlington, Darlington House still echoes a lifestyle of gracious living, elegant dinner parties and delightful musical concerts. Truly photogenic and intimate, with a courtyard for the Ceremony, Patio for dinner, a separate patio for cocktail and the home itself is a great space for the wedding party.
Mike and Taryn had originally booked with another DJ, who is a friend of mine. I won’t mention any names since becoming unavailable for someone’s wedding day is a DJ’s worst nightmare! Luckily I haven’t had to deal with this just yet, I’ve always been the guy that takes over 🙂
When Taryn and Mike walked into the meeting room, I was in shock. Turns out, Taryn and I knew eachother when we were around the age of 14 from a mutual friend. It had been over 10 years since we had seen eachother, and we were just kids then. At first I was afraid that knowing me would be a bit of a hurdle, since I wasn’t exactly a professional DJ at the age of 14. But she gave me the benefit of the doubt and for that I’m grateful.
Taryn and Mike had their ceremony elsewhere, so the ceremony and fountain area were clear for post-ceremony photos. During cocktail the wedding party took photos, before being asked into the reception area for the grand entrance.
The grand entrance song was “Isn’t She Lovely” which then transitioned right into “Ribbon in the Sky” — both by Stevie Wonder. I can’t say enough, how much I love these songs and Stevie Wonders music. I liked their first dance song so much, I started sharing the song choice on Facebook and Twitter.
Toasts, dinner and more dancing followed as the rest of the night played out. Taryn and Mike’s guests were a lot of fun and really enjoying the dance floor. It was a lot of fun for me as well, because Taryn had requested a lot of 90’s hip-hop and pop, ranging from Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown etc. I think my favorite mix of the night was “My Perogative”.. Taryn had asked if I could mix Britney Spears version into Bobby Browns version, or vice versa. I am always up for a challenge when someone asks me to do something so specific. I sliced it, so the song went from Bobby Brown, then instead of Bobby singing “My Perogative” it sliced into Britney’s version and the point in the song of HER saying “My Perogative”. I was quite pleased with it.
Thanks Taryn and Mike for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day. It was truly a beautiful event.
